By chance I heard this great number Down on Beale Street by Freddy Cannon and Ron Dante. The number was recorded in 2016 and those of us who have reached middle age and beyond remember Freddy Boom Boom Cannon and his many hits such as Tallahassee Lassie, Way Down Yonder in New Orleans, and Palisades Park to name but a few. Freddy Cannon had most of his hits from the end of the 50’s and into the sixties until the English groups lead by The Beatles took over the hit lists in USA.
Ron Dante is probably most known from his hits with the groups The Archies: Sugar Sugar and The Cuff Links: Tracy as well as from his job as producer for Barry Manilow.
Freddy Cannon was born in 1940 and Ron Dante in 1945 so I guess you could say without offending anyone that they are a couple of mature gentlemen. Nevertheless, they have still had the energy to produce a hit like Down on Beale Street. The number is very catchy and danceable. And it shows once more that age has no expiration date when it comes to producing a solid pop hit. Hats off to the two singers.
