Black Stone Cherry: Hard Rock with a Commercial Twist!

Black Stone Cherry originates from Kentucky, USA and was formed i 2001. BSC consists of as I am writing this of John Fred Young (son of Richard Young from the Kentucky Headhunters), Chris Robertson, Ben Wells and Steve Jewell.

BSC play hard rock which rock and roll so to speak but at the same time they often have a chorus that you can sing along to. You get the full package. And as proof of their song writing skills the band has had 8 singles on the American rock charts. That’s pretty good, I think.

The first time I heard the American band Black Stone Cherry was in 2006. I had bought their first album aptly titled Black Stone Cherry. For some reason or other the band slipped under my radar until recently when I heard a couple of their tunes from their latest album the Human Condition. These songs had me digging into their past albums and that BSC record trip was a real ear opener for me and had me thinking how much good music I had been avoiding.

The development of the band during the years shows a certain commercialization which has done them a lot of good. Their songs have become much more listenable even though they are still on the heavy side of the musical spectrum. And that’s really what I like about the band. They play hard rock which rock and roll so to speak but at the same time they often have a chorus that you can sing along to. You get the full package. And as proof of their song writing skills the band has had 8 singles on the American rock charts. That’s pretty good, I think.

As I mentioned earlier I especially like Black Stone Cherry because they play a kind of heavy rock that has a commercial twist to it. Just try and give their number Won’t Let Go a listen. I think you need to bring out your Zippo. So, if you like hard rock which you can sing along to and at the same time has your adrenalin running, I think you should give Black Stone Cherry a chance. But turn up the volume.

I have as usual thrown in a couple of videos as appetizers. Hope you like Black Stone Cherry.

If you like my post or perhaps not I would love if you would send me your comments.
