Bad Company: Excellent Live Album!

I bought the first Bad Co album in 1973, after Free had unfortunately disbanded. Lead singer Paul Rodgers was and is probably one of the best rock singers you will ever hear, but in fact the album I want to highlight here surprisingly does not feature Paul Rodgers.

When Paul Rodgers left Bad Company in 1986, singer Brian Howe stepped in to replace him. He came from a job as lead singer in Ted Nugent’s Band. It was a big mouthful to have to replace Paul Rodgers, but I was actually incredibly surprised when I heard this live album What You Hear Is What You Get.

It’s simply brilliant, even though it’s from 1993. The twin guitars mastered by Mick Ralphs and Dave Colwell as well as Simon Kirke on drums and Rick Wills on bass drive the band forward in an incomparable combination and pace.I only recently became aware of this album, but it has been played over and over again. And then again.

Favorite tracks on this live album are Take This Town, How About That, If You Needed Somebody and a really nice version of Good Lovin Gone Bad. Fantastic and incredibly exciting and stimulating to listen to. Highly recommended.
