Bilbao is the surprisingly unknown but vibrant city (355,000 inhabitants) in northern Spain. A treasure waiting to be discovered. A city known for its impressive architecture, culinary delights and cultural richness.
Our trip to Bilbao began with a look at the iconic Guggenheim Museum, designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. This architectural masterpiece is like a ship stranded in the middle of the city built of titanium and steel surfaces. Once inside, you should for example explore contemporary artworks from artists such as Jeff Koons and Andy Warhol.
Basque food is world famous and in Bilbao you can taste some of the most authentic dishes. And by all means, don’t miss the “pintxos,” the small delicacies served in bars throughout the city.
As mentioned, Bilbao is rich in culture. Head to the old town area, Casco Viejo, where cobbled streets and colorful buildings with small shops take you back in time. Also visit the 14th century Santiago Cathedral.
Bilbao is a city for travelers seeking an authentic and memorable experience. From architectural gems to culinary delights and cultural richness, Bilbao offers a diversity of experiences.
I can only recommend that you take the plunge and experience magical Bilbao, where history and modernity merge.
I’ll let some pictures show you what I mean.
