JJ Grey and Mofro: No Nonsense Music, but Boy is it Good!

JJ Grey and Mofro play no nonsense music. Music, which is incredibly good. Their music is rooted in where they come from which is Florida and you can easily hear that both in the lyrics but also in the music itself. The band plays a beautiful mixture of rock, blues, gospel, and soul. I quite like JJ Grey and Mofro.
JJ Grey and Mofro in action

John Higginbotham aka JJ Grey began his career in the mid-nineties with Daryl Hance (who left the band in 2010). They started under the name Mofro which supposedly should define the band’s musical style. Later on, JJ Grey changed the band’s name to JJ Grey and Mofro. They released their first album in 2001 and have since released nine albums. JJ Grey hails from Florida which you can clearly hear in both the lyrics and the different musical expressions which the band combine. You can hear the band infuse rock, soul, blues, funk, gospel and some more. Still JJ Grey and Mofro play a no nonsense kind of music despite all the genres they encompass.

As I mentioned JJ Grey and Mofro play a no-nonsense music which reflects a working-class background. So, if it is intellectual music, you are looking for this isn’t the place but if you are searching for music that will get your body moving and activate your singing abilities this is it. That’s why I like JJ Grey and Mofro. They play a diverse kind of music but in a delightfully informal and highly energetic way which you can easily relate to. Happy listening.
