Thorbjorn Risager and the Black Tornado: Funky Blues when it’s Best!

Thorbjorn Risager grew up in a small town 30 km from Copenhagen in Denmark in a family where both parents were music teachers. He started early on  to play different instruments while listening to Elvis Presley, Fats Domino and Little Richard. But it was when he heard BB King and Ray Charles that he saw the musical light.

After Highschool Thorbjorn got a college degree from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, and it was during his years at college that he found out that he could also write music. He eventually formed the band Thorbjorn Risager Blue 7 in 2003 and in 2014 he changed the band’s name to Thorbjorn Risager and the Black Tornado.

The band has won several music awards both in native Denmark and abroad for best blues band. The seven-man strong band has played in Scandinavia, Europe, Canada, the US and Asia for the past twenty years. Thorbjørn Risager and The Black Tornado blends blues, soul, Americana and rock’n’roll into an exciting mixture so you can’t help but tap your feet and clap your hands if not dance. I was fortunate to see Thorbjorn Risager and the Black Tornado in concert in November 2022 at it was truly a blast. They had the whole audience up and clapping and shouting after the first few songs. By all means go see them if they play near you.

Below I have put in some videos so you can hear for yourself how good Thorbjørn Risager and The Black Tornado really are. Enjoy.
