Dark Matter by Blake Crouch: Out of this World Suspense Novel!

Dark Matter is a sci-fi suspense novel which you'll read in an afternoon or more likely one night. The main character Jason Dessen who is a professor in quantum physics at a small Chicago college is kidnapped and wakes up in another world where he is no longer married or has a son. He is now an acclaimed genius in quantum physics. Which of the worlds is the right one? This question and multiple others bring Jason out on an incredible journey.

Let me begin this review by stating that if you don’t like reading suspense novels then by all means don’t read Dark Matter. This book is one of the most exciting novels that I have read in several years. To quote New York Times Book Review:” You’ll gulp down Dark Matter in an afternoon or more likely one night.”

Dark Matter is a sci-fi suspense novel and please don’t let that refrain you from reading it if you don’t like the supernatural. By not reading this book you’ll miss out both a thought provoking and intelligent book.

The main character in the book is Jason Dessen who is a professor in quantum physics at a small Chicago college. He is content with his quiet and ordinary life with his wife and his son. However, one night he is invited to a reception by one of his former college friends who has received a prestigious science award. On the way home from the reception Jason is suddenly abducted by a masked stranger who apparently knows everything about him.

Jason is ordered to drive to a big and deserted warehouse where he is exposed to a violent treatment, stripped naked and drugged. Before he loses consciousness, his kidnapper asks Jason:” Are you happy in your life?”

When he wakes up again, he is strapped and surrounded by people in safety suits. A strange man bends over him and says:” Welcome back”.

Jason has woken up in a world he doesn’t recognize. His wife is not his wife. His son has never been born. And he is no longer a professor at a small college in Chicago. He is now an acclaimed genius in the world of quantum physics. A scientist, who chose a career instead of a family.

Is it this world or the other that is a dream? Where is his family? Who is he? And multiple other unanswered questions.

This is the beginning of an incredible journey for Jason which will challenge, shake and at the same time bring the best and worst out in him.

I can only say read this book.
