Three sons of the founding fathers of one of the most iconic bands in the US ever the Allman Brothers Band carry the torch. And I have to tell you straight from the heart. The Allman Betts Band play incredibly good rock music. Just like their dads did.
The Allman Betts Band is a seven-man strong band featuring Devon Allman (guitar and vocals) son of Gregg Allman, Duane Betts (guitar and vocals) son of Dickey Betts and Berry Duane Oakley (bass and vocals) son of Berrey Oakley. Besides the three already mentioned ABB consist of Johnny Stachela (guitar and vocals), John Ginty (keyboards), R Scott Bryan (percussion and vocals) and John Lum (drums).
The Allman Betts Band play guitar driven melodic rock music. Music which gives the three lead guitars plenty of room to show their improvisational skills. The band’s music is naturally compared to the Allman Brothers Band, but if I were to come up with an important distinction the Allman Betts Band’s music is lighter, more melodic, and not as blues oriented as their fathers’ music were. However, there are many similarities as well which connoisseurs will be able to tell.
For fans of classic, high octane rock music the Allman Betts Band is a delicacy. A real snack. I do hope that I will be able to see them live some day in the near future.
Happy listening.
