Jimmy Burns (born 1943) is an American blues guitarist and singer. He was born in
Mississippi on a plantation in the Delta and it was here that he heard and was
influenced by the blues. When he was twelve years old, he moved to Chicago with
his family. 4 years later he began his music career, but without any major
success. In the beginning of the 70s he took a long break from music
to focus on raising his family. In the start of the 90s he returned to the
music scene and in 1996 he finally established himself as a major blues artist
with the album Leaving Here Walking.
If I were to characterize Jimmy Burns as a blues artist, then I would say that he
plays a special funky mixture of soul and blues music. His blues expression
might derive from the fact that he was born in Mississippi and raised in Chicago.
However, this mixture is why I really like Jimmy Burns. Scores of blues musicians play the Chicago blues style, but Jimmy Burns has somehow found his own expression of
the blues. As examples of his playing I have put in some videos from his
live album from 2008 Live at the B.L.U.E.S. The blues should be heard live, you
know. Enjoy.
If you like my post or perhaps not I would love if you would send me your comments.
